Pair of 17th Century Continental Girandole Mirrors

$7,250.00Price

Here we have two remarkable survivors from the depths of history. These 17th century girandole mirrors remain intact, with their sibling, original finish, and original silvered mirrors. The detail that has gone into carving the figures is nothing short of exquisite. They are an incredibly layered when one examines all of their iconography. Starting at the base of each mirror. we have two supports for the candles adorned as outstreached acanthus leafs emerging from the mouth of a lion. Scroll work surrounds the lion rounding out the mirrors' base. A finely detailed and stepped dental boarder surrounds the body of each mirror. At the top of each mirror we have four busts all mirrored. Two looking ominously outwards, and two female torsos flanking the carved firey urn at the top of each mirror. The mirrors condition and survival as a pair speaks to their incredible craftsmanship, and the pride they must have struck in their owners over the last three-and-a-half to four centuries. Just imagine who may have peered through the candle light into these windows in history. Can you see yourself in them?
