Bruce Kamerling Mosaic

Bruce Kamering was a highly talented, multidisciplinary, queer artist working in the 1970s and 1980s. This is such a revolutionary, and unfortunately tragic period for queer art. Coming off the high of civil rights advancements and sexual liberation of the 60s and 70s, only for so many beautiful and influential young lives to be cut short during the AIDS epidemic. Kamerling’s life came to an early end in 1995 at the age of 40, but not before he had made a significant impact on the arts, particularly in southern California. This mosaic, titled “XXX” and dated 1980-81, displays a beautiful idealistic male torso expertly executed in glass and set in concrete.
The piece screams so-cal chic with its vibrant colors and would offer excellent motivation or eye candy in a home gym, near the pool, or equally at home in the bedroom. 18”x26”
